For many parents and caregivers, discipline is one of the challenging parts of the job. But it’s also one of the most important, because of its long-term impacts on our children’s view of the world and the way they treat themselves and others.
On February 18, 2022, CJFI Staff Nationwide attended a Webinar entitled, “Corporal Punishment vs. Positive Discipline” directed by Ms. Renelene Joy Tallod, RGc, RPm (CJFI QC Sponsor)

Ms. Renelene then explained the topic, the disadvantages, and the advantages of Corporal punishment towards the children and the parent and/or caregiver.
Tackled also in the discussion of Ms. Tallod, Filipino children most likely will learn better if their parents and teacher 1) Talk to them calmly and understand the way 2) Explain to them what they have done wrong or how they should do things the right way and 3) Make them feel that they are loved and accepted.
She cites Positive Discipline and Children’s Rights. a) Respect for the human dignity and physical integrity of children. b) Recognition of children’s capacities and their right to participate. c) Ensuring children’s best interest at all times.
During the symposium, Ms. Renelene also suggested creating a supportive learning environment that provides children with appropriate information and guidance to facilitate learning, decision making and problem-solving.
Lastly, she discussed Positive Discipline in three-term.

“Using positive Discipline is a Process. It will take time and it needs family support.” Ms. Renelene end the discussion with this phrase
It was indeed a healthy and productive discussion.
