“When playing music, it is possible to achieve a unique sense of peace.” – Daniel Barenboim
Music is a part of development from the strains of the first lullaby. Music enters a child’s life from experiences in the family, from the media, as a part of religious worship, in the school curriculum, in play, and in organized recreation.
In CJFI, there is no dispute that the beneficiaries have been blessed with God-given talents in music. Children as young as seven years old, already know how to play instruments like beatbox and guitar while singing their hearts out to their favorite songs with perfect pitch. To help them furthermore develop their talents, the CJFI Davao had a 3-week long music lesson.
During the first week of the lesson, their music instructor, Ms. Jhockclaire Batencilla, who is also the PSDO, taught them the basic parts and knowledge that they should know about music and in playing the chosen musical instruments. After every session, their instructor let them play their musical instrument in front of their classmates to help them build self-esteem and confidence in performing in front of other people.
Moreover, in the whole duration of lesson, hard work and perseverance can be seen in the way the children push themselves in memorizing chords, strumming the guitar, tapping their beatbox, and tirelessly playing the chords of the piano to perfection.
Through this musical lesson, the children were also able to enjoy the benefit and explore the beauty of playing musical instruments: from the pure pleasure of listening to soothing sounds and rhythmic harmonies, gaining new language and social skills can be developed by teaching the children the roles of music and its presence in many aspects of our lives.
