From November 7 to December 9, 2018, CJFI Cebu hosted seven (7) female Swedish students from Umeå University, Northern Sweden, who had their international social work field studies at CJFI’s Cebu Residential Care Facility.
They are social work students Agnes Göransson, Gabriella Edfeldt, Lisa Hägglund, Petra Brännström, Sophia Elo, and Hanna Andersson. It is a part of Umeå University’s curriculum for International Social Work students to engage in field studies with global organizations like CJFI.
The Swedish students actively participated in the center activities like the National Children’s Month, home visitation for after care monitoring, rest and recreations, and character-building activities. They also conducted their own character-building activities through group dynamics, arts, and craft.
In an interview, one of the student interns, Gabriella Edfeldt said, “I have learned so much from the staff here during our stay. We were able to learn about your culture and differences from ours. We, student interns, learned to become leaders as well especially in implementing activities for the children.”
CJFI Cebu organized an exit conference and a farewell party for the six Swedish students on December 9, 2018.
This 2019, CJFI is expecting more students from other countries to conduct their internship at the CJFI residential care centers. A German student already expressed her intent to take her internship at the CJFI Davao Center in 2019. Another group of students from Umeå University is also setting up their schedule and has communicated with CJFI.
