On December 9, 2016, the members of DSWD’s Area-Based Standards Network (ABSNet) Region XI gathered at the Prayer and Covenant Mountain located in Barangay Tamayong, Calinan, Davao City to hold its Year-End Evaluation and Christmas Party. It was attended by participants from five (5) clusters of ABSNet Region XI which is composed of about 45 different Social Welfare and Development Agencies (SWADAs) per cluster.
Ms. Rosemarie N. Dimagnaong, the President of ABSNet Region XI and Executive Director of the Children’s Joy Foundation, Inc., opened the event with a warm welcoming remarks. It was followed by an audio visual presentation that was prepared for the group outlining the activities and accomplishments of ABSNet Region XI for the year 2016.
Mr. Alfredo Sy, the Social Welfare Officer IV / Unit Head of DSWD Region XI Standards Bureau, gave a brief orientation on Republic Act 10847 — an act lowering the age requirement for applicants taking the board examinations for social workers, providing for continuing social work education and upgrading the sundry provisions relative to the practice, while Ms. Leah Genson, National ABSNet Federation officer, talked about NAB updates discussed during the last meeting she attended in Manila.
The second part of the programme was a showcase of talents and performances by each ABSNet XI cluster.
ABSNet XI’s 2017 direction and thrust were also presented. This includes the upcoming “Business and NGO Forum”, Benchmarking in Japan, Members Capability Building, Lobbying and Institutionalized Support from local and national government.
After the presentation of the 2017 direction, the agencies were awarded with Certificates of Participation. The day was concluded with Christmas gifts exchanged among participants.
Ms. Dimagnaong closed the day with kind and heartfelt words and concluding, “With one spirit, let us continue to ‘Soar High towards Excellent Social Service’ for year 2017 and beyond!”
